Publishing a Vocabulary

The Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC) invites our partners to publish vocabularies in Research Vocabularies Australia.

Users interested in publishing vocabularies can upload via the portal or register for the Research Vocabularies Australia (RVA) Editor. The RVA Editor allows users to create and manage vocabularies and the concepts they contain. Once approved and added to the system, registered users can:

  1. create and manage vocabularies
  2. publish and describe vocabularies
  3. store vocabularies.

Create or manage a vocabulary

The RVA Editor allows you to manage your vocabulary with your collaborators, with optional workflow management. Vocabularies can be uploaded or created from scratch within the editor. Additional features of the RVA Editor include:

  • capturing information about your vocabulary and the concepts it contains
  • browsing through the concepts in your vocabulary via the built-in visualisation tool
  • linking concepts in your vocabulary to concepts in other vocabularies.

Access to the RVA Editor is restricted to ARDC partner organisations (Australian research organisations, including universities, research institutes, collecting organisations and government agencies). Partners can use the RVA Editor to create new machine-readable vocabularies.

Store a vocabulary

Research Vocabularies Australia includes a repository for vocabulary files and their information. The Research Vocabulary Australia repository enables the flow of information between the editor and the portal.

Storing a vocabulary in Research Vocabularies Australia makes it accessible through the LinkedData API, SPARQL endpoint and Registry API.
